TEAMS

At our unit we have several teams that have the opportunity to compete at zone (local), provincial, and national levels. These, teams, like the cadet program, are free to join. Cadets that qualify for higher levels of competition have transportation, accommodation and food paid for.

We also have some teams that train for demonstrations at our Annual Ceremonial Review.

Biathlon Team

Biathlon is a sport that combines running and marksmanship in the warmer months, and skiing and marksmanship in the colder months.

The team trains year round on our optional training night. Cadets run around the commons and then bring their heart rate down to achieve accurate marksmanship results. The zone competition is usually held in November, and we try to send as many qualifying cadets as possible.

In 2016, two of our cadets qualified and competed in Nova Scotia Provincials. In 2017, four of our cadets are preparing to attend Nova Scotia Provincials in 2018.

Marksmanship Team

Marksmanship practice is held year round on optional training nights, and occasionally during mandatory training nights. Cadets have the option of trying out and being selected for the marksmanship team.

The marksmanship team fires Daisy 853C air rifles which fire .177 caliber pellets. The FPS is under 500fps so the rifles are not considered firearms although for safety purposes we run ranges and handle the rifles as if they are loaded firearms at all times.

Drill Team

The drill team usually starts training in January. They perform at our Annual Ceremonial Review in late spring. They spin drill purpose rifles (that are impossible to fire) and perform sequences in unison to create an impressive display of discipline and precision. This demonstration is often the most popular display at the Annual Ceremonial Review and represents the drill skill sets that are learned throughout the year.
